I set up a Zoom appointment so she could help me with a project I started in a local class. She instantly identified an error in the pattern that saved me hours of frustration.
She then showed me how to do three new stitches using her Zoom camera and patiently watched me create them to make sure I understood.
Most importantly, she's the first teacher to explain how to read and analyze a pattern while showing me her process so I can do it myself next time. That knowledge alone was priceless. She then showed me how to write out the next steps of the pattern - including showing me how she did the math to calculate the stitch decreases.
But, I'm most excited about the fact that she also drew a PICTURE that demonstrated what the pattern was saying to do. She did this naturally - that's just her teaching style. I have to say, it's eye-opening.
I feel like I just learned in one hour with Bonnie what would've taken me years to pick up bit by bit with other teachers I've had or family and friends.

Clear, easy instruction and lots of patience. I love to teach others something new and bring them to a place of refreshing rest as they learn to create new and wonderful things. Adult Beginners and Intermediate levels are welcome. I will teach the basics for beginners - Cast on/off, knit/purl stitches, increasing/decreasing and we will finish with a project. Intermediates usually need help getting started again, finishing a project or help with a pattern, I will also teach you new stitch patterns to have fun with.

I love knitting, enjoying making a huge variety of items using many different techniques. I knit using the English style, having grown up in Cheshire, England, but also knit using the Continental style of knitting too. I have been teaching knitting in groups and on a one to one basis for a few years. My students have ranged in age from 8 years old to 80 years old.

Private Knitting Lessons Near You
Knitting projects are endless, and knitting supplies are quite affordable. With a set of needles and a skein of yarn, you can craft just about anything. From hand-made socks and sweaters to tea cozies and wall hangings, the possibilities of knitting are limitless.
If you’re interested in learning the art of knitting, then we’re glad you’re here. At TakeLessons, we offer a wide range of knitting lessons for kids and adults alike. Never picked up a pair of knitting needles before? No sweat. We feature beginner classes that teach you the basics and foundations of this craft, from understanding needle gauges to experimenting with slip knots.
But maybe you want to take your skills up a level by challenging yourself with more advanced projects and techniques. We can help with
that, too. Our certified knitting instructors are eager to help you achieve all your arts and crafts goals when you sign up for knitting lessons near you!
Why You Should Learn to Knit
Of course, you should learn to knit so you can make tons of cozy blankets, sweaters, and scarves! The benefits of knitting, however, go beyond textile pleasures. It turns out, knitting is great for your mental and physical health.
Knitting has the same effects on the body and mind as meditation. It can lower stress, reduce blood pressure, and even alleviate physical pain. Knitting can also help strengthen muscles in the hands and arms, improving fine motor skills and relieving symptoms of arthritis.
If you're a kinesthetic learner, meaning you learn best while doing something physical, like doodling, knitting while listening to a lecture will help you retain information. Knitting can also improve a person's memory and slow cognitive decline.
Although it only takes one person to work a set of needles, knitting also promotes connection. Social knitters gather to knit and bond. Many knitters even gather for good causes, like putting sweaters on trees to raise awareness or making beanies for newborn babies.
The Best Way to Learn to Knit and What You'll Practice in Lessons
One of the major benefits of taking knitting lessons is that your sessions are 100% tailored to your needs. No two lessons are the same because your teacher will assess where you are and where you want to go. Once your knitting instructor has a better idea of what you want to get out of your studies, they will design a customized lesson plan to help you achieve your goals.
Another perk of taking private knitting lessons is that you get to learn to knit at your own pace. You don’t have to worry about keeping up with the other students in the class or finding yourself bored while the instructor focuses on a technique you’ve already mastered. During your one-on-one instruction, you have your teacher’s undivided attention, so you can go at a speed that suits you and focus on the topics that most interest you.
